Why NAD+ gets so much attention

The part that rarely comes up: uric acid

Here's the mechanism worth knowing. NAD+ precursors are ultimately metabolized through pathways that feed into purine and nucleotide turnover. The final breakdown product of purine metabolism in humans is uric acid [4]. Niacin (nicotinic acid), the classic B3 vitamin and a relative of these precursors, has a long-documented association with raised serum urate, partly through effects on how the kidney handles uric acid [4][5].

Because the newer precursors sit in overlapping biochemical territory, uric acid is a reasonable marker to check at baseline and to watch over time. This isn't a reason to avoid anything — it's a reason to measure before you start, so a provider has a reference point.

Who should pay closest attention

If you already run on the higher end of the urate range, have a personal or family history of gout or kidney stones, drink alcohol regularly, or eat a purine-heavy diet, your baseline context changes the conversation.
