You read that hormone testing in perimenopause is pointless because levels swing from day to day, and there is real truth in that. But "a single number is unreliable" is not the same as "testing tells you nothing," and the difference is where a good provider actually earns their keep.

Where the myth breaks down
Here is the part the "testing is pointless" headline leaves out. The reason your doctor might not need FSH to confirm perimenopause is not the same as the reason to skip labs entirely. Labs are not only for confirming perimenopause. They are for ruling out the conditions that impersonate it.
At 43 or 44, several very common, very treatable problems produce almost the exact symptom list attributed to hormones: fatigue, weight shift, low mood, brain fog, poor sleep, and irregular cycles.
