# How to Evaluate a Longevity Test Panel

A longevity panel may mix familiar tests with experimental scores. Separate what is measured from what the result can help you decide.

A “longevity panel” can include familiar blood tests, specialized measurements, or an estimated biological-age score. The label does not establish that every included test improves health decisions or predicts an individual's lifespan.

## Familiar tests still need a reason

Cholesterol testing helps assess cardiovascular risk. A1c provides information about average blood glucose. These tests have defined clinical uses, interpreted alongside history and other findings.[1][2]

Adding them to a longevity package does not change what they measure. Their usefulness depends on whether screening, monitoring, or investigation is appropriate for the person.

## Aging scores are a different kind of output

Researchers are developing models that estimate biological age from selected measurements. Different models can describe different aspects of aging, including patterns in blood markers or DNA-related changes.[3]

Those estimates can be associated with later outcomes in research populations. That does not make a commercial score a certain forecast for one person, or prove that lowering it will extend life.

A provider should be able to explain what the specific model measures and which claims have been studied.

## Check the evidence behind the offer

FDA distinguishes between a test's ability to measure something accurately and its ability to predict a health state. Direct-to-consumer tests vary in their supporting evidence.[4]

Before purchasing, identify the actual test list, who interprets it, and which findings would lead to follow-up. Clarify the total cost, including any repeat testing or additional consultations.
