Pain in the upper-right abdomen that lasts for hours can be a gallbladder warning sign, especially when it comes with nausea, vomiting, fever or jaundice. Semaglutide and tirzepatide weight-management labels both warn about acute gallbladder disease. [1][2][3]

## What happens during a gallbladder attack?

Gallstones can block the ducts that carry bile, causing bile to build up in the gallbladder. NIDDK describes the resulting pain as usually occurring in the upper-right abdomen and sometimes lasting several hours. Attacks may follow heavy meals or occur at night. [1]

Not all gallstones cause symptoms. The concern changes when a stone blocks a duct or complications develop. [1]

## Why does weight-management treatment matter?

Substantial or rapid weight loss can increase gallstone risk. The semaglutide label also reports more acute gallbladder disease than placebo even after accounting for the amount of weight lost. The tirzepatide label notes that gallbladder events in its trials were associated with weight reduction. [2][3]

That means the history should include both treatment and weight change. [1][2][3]

## Which symptoms need prompt care?

NIDDK recommends medical care right away for abdominal pain lasting several hours, particularly with vomiting, fever or chills, yellowing of the skin or eyes, tea-colored urine or pale stools. These can indicate a serious gallbladder, liver or pancreas problem. [1]

Persistent or severe pain that extends toward the back is also important because pancreatitis is another warning in both medication labels. The location of the pain alone cannot safely distinguish the conditions. [1][2][3]

When seeking care, describe where the pain is, how long it has lasted, whether it recurs after meals, and any fever, vomiting or color changes. Include the exact medication and recent treatment changes.
