# Dizziness when standing on a GLP-1: what it can mean

Standing-related dizziness can involve a blood-pressure drop, dehydration or another cause. Timing and related symptoms help guide the assessment.

Dizziness that appears when you stand can reflect a drop in blood pressure, called orthostatic hypotension. Dehydration and medicines are among possible contributors. Semaglutide and tirzepatide weight-management trials also recorded low-blood-pressure events. [1][2][3]

## How can treatment-related symptoms contribute?

Vomiting or diarrhea can reduce body fluid. Both medication labels warn about fluid depletion, and their trial reports link some low-blood-pressure events with gastrointestinal symptoms and dehydration. [2][3]

Low-blood-pressure events were also more frequent among people taking blood-pressure medicines. That makes the full prescription list relevant when symptoms appear during treatment. [2][3]

A clinical review may consider the usual blood pressure, pulse, recent symptoms and whether the dizziness begins specifically with a position change. [1]

## Describe the sensation and timing

It helps to say whether you feel lightheaded or close to fainting, how soon it happens after standing, how long it lasts and whether it comes with palpitations or other symptoms. Mention vomiting, diarrhea and difficulty drinking, along with any recent medicine changes. [1][2][3]

Low blood sugar is another medication-related concern in some circumstances, particularly with certain combinations of diabetes medicines. It should not be inferred from dizziness alone; the regimen and appropriate assessment matter. [2][3]

## When should it be assessed urgently?

Loss of consciousness needs immediate medical attention. Confusion, little or no urination, rapid heartbeat or rapid breathing can indicate severe dehydration and also require help right away. [1][4]

Recurrent episodes without those warning signs still merit review, especially if they interfere with work, driving or normal activity. The response depends on the cause and current medicines; changing blood-pressure or weight-management treatment independently can obscure the problem. [1]
